Personal & Home Care Aide State Training (PHCAST) Initiative

Train the Trainers

In April, the Council, in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, offered two separate Train the Trainer Sessions for those seeking access to the Executive Offices of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) and the Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) ABCs for Direct Care Workers curriculum, a product of the MA Personal and Home Care Aide State Training (PHCAST). This enhanced training curriculum was developed for organizations to train individuals to work as homemakers and personal care homemakers. Participants also received an outline they can use to train individuals who completed the PHCAST program up to the position of home health aide.

  • Over 50 individuals from more than 40 home care agencies and training providers participated in this most recent round of Train the Trainers.
  • Since the PHCAST Initiative began in 2011, over 260 trainers from almost 200 home care agencies and training providers have attended this program and been granted access to this adult-learner centered training curriculum.

The Council will partner with UMASS to offer more series of Train the Trainers on this curriculum. To learn more, contact the Council at 617.744.6561.
