On Thursday, July 20 the Home Care Aide Council will present “Elder Abuse Awareness Training” via webinar to members of the American Society on Aging. The presentation is a follow up to the workshop on preventing elder abuse that the Council shared at the American Society on Aging’s annual conference earlier this year. During the webinar, participants will review a two-hour training curriculum developed for home care aides and other frontline elder caregivers on recognizing and reporting elder abuse. The presentation with feature Lisa Gurgone, Executive Director, and Hayley Gleason, Associate Director, of the Home Care Aide Council. They will be joined by Betsey Crimmins, of Greater Boston Legal Services.

The Elder Abuse Awareness curriculum was designed by the Council in conjunction with Greater Boston Legal Services and funded by a grant from Eastern Bank Foundation. It was shared with home care agencies in Massachusetts through “train the trainer” sessions and over 80 individuals were given the tools to educate home care aides on how to identify and report elder abuse. The Council is proud to share this program with a national audience.
