The Coalition leading the #EnoughPayToStay campaign, Home Care Aide Council, Mass Home Care and Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts, recently hosted a legislative breakfast at WestMass ElderCare, Inc. in Holyoke, MA. Home care workers from O’Connell Care at Home and Victory Home Healthcare shared their stories with the audience, illustrating the important work they do and the challenges they face because compensation for direct care workers is low. Present at the event were Representative Aaron Vega, sponsor of H350, a bill supporting frontline home care workers. Representative John Velis and Representative Jose Tosado, co-sponsors of the bill, as well as staff from Senator Don Humason’s office were there to hear the home care workers speak.

Covering the event was media from the Springfield Republican. In addition to listening to what the home care workers had to say about their job helping seniors stay in their homes, the reporter interviewed Lisa Gurgone, Executive Director for the Home Care Aide Council and Al Norman, Executive Director of Mass Home Care. Click here to read the article about the event and the #EnoughPayToStay campaign.
