HEART Consortium Workforce Development Initiative

The goal of this initiative, managed by the Center for     Community Health Education Research and Services,     Inc. (CCHERS), is to assist low-income, under-   employed or unemployed individuals in gaining   employment as home care aides. To do this, an enhanced   training program was designed, to include home health   aide training with additional components: case   management, financial literacy training, career   readiness, and additional life skill prep.

This training was developed in part, with information gathered through an industry assessment, conducted using focus groups and interviews with home care aides and home care agencies.  For additional information of this planning process, read the Heart Home Health Aide Training Initiative Report.

In total, six Home Health Aide training classes took place in 2016 and 2017. The initial project was funded by SkillWorks, Partners Healthcare, and Commonwealth Corporation.

With additional funding from Commonwealth Corporation, two additional trainings were funded in 2017 and 2018.  These new trainings specifically target individuals that are considered long-term unemployed.
