On June 15th, the Council will join state partners for an informative, half-day seminar entitled, “A Statewide Approach to Increasing Education and Career Opportunities for Direct Care Workers and Supervisors”.  This forum, which will take place at UMass Medical School in Shrewsbury, will showcase the outcomes of a Massachusetts Community College and Long-term Care Workforce Consortium-based project for direct care workers and supervisors. Attendees will learn how to access materials and implement strategies at their sites.


Project outcomes include:

  • Updated and refined two Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) core competency trainings: ABCs for Direct Care WorkersandNurse Aide Bridge Curriculum
  • Developed and tested a coaching model for limited-English learners
  • Created career pathways between community colleges and four-year degree programs
  • Produced a web-based direct care worker supervisor training


Program partners include: University of Massachusetts Medical School MassAHEC Network, Home Care Aide Council, MA Senior Care, Partnership for a Skilled Workforce, and the following community colleges: Bristol, Greenfield, MassBay, Middlesex, Northern Essex, and Quinsigamond.  This project was funded through the Department of Higher Education Nursing and Allied Health Initiative.
